The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has acquitted former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed in a case relating to his allegations against President Asif Ali Zardari of plotting to assassinate former Prime Minister Imran Khan .

Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mahmood on Friday announced the reserved verdict on Rashid’s acquittal plea.

Speaking to the media outside the courthouse, Rashid expressed his gratitude, saying: “With the help of Allah, I have been acquitted today even though 14 terrorism cases remain pending. »

The case was filed against Rashid in 2023 at Aabpara police station in Islamabad, which included charges of conspiracy and incitement.

Yesterday, a district and sessions court in the federal capital had reserved its decision on his plea for acquittal.

The current leaders have achieved their goal, he said, adding that they are now the ones facing criticism and even hostility from the public.

The former federal minister further noted that the two major parties – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) – have become symbols of public contempt.

He added: “I was not even present at the scene when the alleged incident took place, yet terrorism cases have been filed against me in places like Mach, Lasbela and Murree – places that I do not ‘ve never visited. »

Rashid also commented on the economic situation, saying that farmers are not receiving fair prices for wheat, and described the current government as acting under pressure from the IMF.
