KURRAM: In a fresh violent incident, at least 15 people, including a woman and a child, were killed on Thursday after attackers opened fire on passenger vehicles in Ochat area of Kurram district, police said. Geo News.
Police said the convoy traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar was targeted in the attack, which left several injured, including three women, in addition to the killings.
The neighborhood has been plagued by clashes between various tribes and parties for several months. The clashes left dozens dead.
The violence has led to the frequent closure of main and connecting roads as well as the border with Afghanistan, causing immense problems for local residents.
Elders of the area said the continued closure of major roads and links would lead to massive humanitarian crises due to acute shortage of edibles, medicines, petrol and diesel in Kurram district.
Elders from the Turi and Bangash tribes have expressed concern that continued road closures have caused a shortage of food and fuel, raising fears of a major humanitarian crisis.
They said the suspension of 3G and 4G services had also caused distress to students and citizens, affecting both studies and businesses in the region.
After shootings at passenger vehicles last month, the main Parachinar-Peshawar highway and other roads were closed amid fears of more such incidents as violence continues to haunt the region.
Clashes in September left 60 dead and dozens injured, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said.
The conflict involved two rival tribes fighting over a piece of land. In August, the two sides reached a two-month ceasefire after armed clashes left 50 dead and 226 injured.
