Bushra Bibi, the incarcerated wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, will not attend the “do or die” protest scheduled for Sunday (today) due to illness, her husband said on Saturday. spokesperson Mashal Yousafzai.
The statement by Bushra’s spokesperson comes on the eve of the former ruling party’s highly publicized “decisive” anti-government protest in Islamabad.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also confirmed that the former first lady would not attend the PTI protest due to health issues. He made the statement while speaking on Geo News “Naya Pakistan” program.
Bushra recently faced strong backlash from government officials for her recent video message in which she accused Saudi Arabia of playing a role in Khan’s ouster as prime minister.
In a video message shared on PTI’s official She had also urged PTI supporters to join the high-profile November 24 protest in Islamabad.
However, Imran refuted the government’s impression, saying it had “excellent relations” with Saudi Arabia.
Sources closer to the former ruling party said Geo News that the former first lady was busy participating in political activities since November 1 and also held meetings with PTI leaders regarding preparations for the November 24 protest.
They also revealed that the incarcerated PTI founder had sent a message to Bushra to stay out of political issues after his statement backfired at a crucial time when his party was increasingly more pressure on the government for his release.
Following his statement which sparked controversy, a case was registered against Bushra, under the Telegraph Act, 1885, a day ago. The FIRs were lodged in Dera Ghazi Khan and other towns, accusing him of inciting hatred through his video statement, News reported.
According to the police, legal proceedings were pending under Section 126 of the Telegraph Act and other relevant laws.
A cybercrime case is also being investigated and will be probed by the cybercrime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) within a day, the statement added.
