What you need to know
The Winthrop Eagles will face the LIU Sharks at 6:30 p.m. ET on Monday at Winthrop Coliseum. The Eagles strut with some offensive power as they have averaged 81.4 points per game this season.
Winthrop will face LIU after failing to reach the over/under odds set for them on Friday, which, to be fair, was a towering 160.5 points. Winthrop suffered a 76-61 loss to Louisville.
This defeat does not tell the whole story, because several players had good matches. One of the most active was Kelton Talford, who almost had a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. This dominant performance also gave him a new career high in offensive rebounds (six).
Even though they lost, Winthrop broke the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outscored their opponents in this department as Louisville only struck out ten.
Meanwhile, LIU recorded its closest victory since February 3 on Saturday. They certainly got their nails bitten, but they managed to escape with a 79-76 victory over Charlotte.
LIU can attribute much of its success to Malachi Davis, who had 31 points and two steals. Davis’ performance made up for a slower game against Air Force two weeks ago. Another player who made the difference was Shadrak Lasu, who had a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.
Winthrop’s loss dropped their record to 4-3. As for LIU, the win brought them back into a tie at 3-3.
A high-performance offense is likely on the agenda, as both teams are among the highest-scoring teams in the league. Winthrop has had no problem putting up the scoring this season, averaging 81.4 points per game. However, it’s not like LIU is struggling in this department, as its average is 75.5. With both teams so easily able to rack up points, the only question that remains is who can run up the score.
