ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad traders’ community on Wednesday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking contempt of court proceedings against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for “violation” of the court order of November 21.
Last week, the IHC declared the PTI’s “do or die” protest “unlawful” and ordered the federal government not to allow the former ruling party to stage its power show in the federal capital.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq delivered the ruling while hearing a petition filed by traders, who raised concerns over potential disruption caused by the protest.
In a five-page verdict, the top IHC judge noted that the petitioner’s lawyer claimed that life in the federal capital came to a complete halt whenever there was any political activity, demonstration or a sit-in.
In violation of the IHC order, the former ruling party held its protest demonstration in the federal capital amid clashes with law enforcement agencies and firing. At least six members of the security forces were among those killed in violent clashes.
In the new petition, traders of Jinnah Super Market (Sector F-7) urged the IHC to initiate contempt proceedings against the former ruling party for holding a protest demonstration in the capital, suspending life daily life and businesses.
According to the cause list released by the IHC Registrar’s office, CJ Farooq would take up the petition on Thursday (tomorrow). The petitioners named the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and others as parties.
