Security forces killed a total of eight terrorists in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, military media reported on Thursday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in the general area of ​​Sararogha of South Waziristan district following the reported presence of terrorists.

The statement said that during the operation, the troops actually attacked the location of the terrorists, following which two militants, including network leader Khan Muhammad alias Khoryay, were killed while two others were apprehended.

“Kharji Khan Muhammad @Khoryay, slain, was involved in numerous terrorist activities in the region, including targeted killings and extortion. He was highly wanted by law enforcement agencies and the government had set a sum of one million rupees,” he added.

The ISPR said that another IBO took place in Lakki Marwat district and after an intense exchange of fire, six terrorists were successfully neutralized by security forces.

“Disinfection operations are underway to eliminate any further Kharji found in the area, as Pakistan security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR added.

A day earlier, forces killed five militants during an IBO in Lakki Marwat while two others were also injured.

It is pertinent to mention here that the third quarter (July-September) 2024 saw a sharp increase in deaths due to terrorist violence and anti-terrorism campaigns, with an increase in violence of 90%, according to a report released by the Center for research. and security studies (CRSS).

A total of 722 people were killed, including civilians, security personnel and outlaws, while 615 others were injured in 328 incidents recorded during the reporting period.

Nearly 97% of these deaths occurred in KP and Balochistan, which is the highest percentage in a decade, and over 92% of these incidents of terrorist attacks and security operations were recorded in the same provinces.

The total number of deaths over the three quarters of this year has now exceeded the total deaths recorded for all of 2023; the death toll rose to at least 1,534 in the first three quarters, compared to 1,523 in 2023.

Meanwhile, terrorist groups continue to reorganize and strengthen their ranks. Most terrorist attacks were not claimed by terrorist or insurgent groups, likely for tactical reasons, the report said.
