Reacting to the arrest of General Faiz, the former prime minister, who was removed from office by a parliamentary vote in 2022, said a public trial would benefit the country and enable it to prosper.

“I demand that a public trial of Faiz Hamid be given to the media to cover him,” the ex-prime minister said on August 21 during an informal interaction with journalists in Adiala prison in Rawalpindi, where he has been imprisoned for more than a year in different cases. ranging from corruption to terrorism.

“If the army wants to hold General Faiz accountable, then it must go ahead and do it,” Khan said, asserting that it is an internal matter of the army.

The former prime minister welcomed the development, saying it was good that the military had started the process of internal accountability. He, however, urged the military to ensure that the process of accountability is widespread.

At today’s press conference, Barrister Gohar also responded to a question regarding the party’s recently announced civil disobedience movement, saying that the upcoming anti-government movement was the call of party founder Imran Khan, and that it would be discussed with him.

It is worth mentioning here that the party founder, incarcerated on December 6, warned the government to launch a “civil disobedience” movement if its demands, including the opening of a judicial investigation into the repression against party supporters , are not satisfied.
