LAHORE: On the 6th day of her 8-day visit to China, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited Chinese technology companies to start operations in Punjab while chairing an investment roundtable in Guangzhou.
In response to her invitation, Chinese technology companies expressed keen interest in investments in Punjab and she pledged to facilitate them through one-stop operation.
During the conference attended by officials from over 60 major companies from China and Hong Kong, the Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a task force, the appointment of a focal person and the creation of a support service.
Representatives of major Chinese companies gave Maryam detailed presentations of their institutions as she considered various suggestions and recommendations for the promotion of Pakistan-China free trade.
Maryam called Punjab a “land of opportunities” for Chinese companies and thanked them for participating in the investment conference by giving them a detailed briefing on the economic, geographical and commercial importance of the province.
Chinese business representatives appreciated the Chief Minister’s vision and welcomed her launch of the plastic-free campaign in Punjab.
Maryam added that “the focus is on wind turbines, solar power and renewable energy sources to get cheap electricity.”
“Reforms are being made in the industry to improve the ecosystem,” she said, as the demand for solar power is continuously increasing in Punjab and to meet these needs, a mega solarization project has been launched for the province.
Maryam said the collaboration of Chinese companies in the solarization project was welcomed.
“The response of Chinese investors to promote Pakistan-China relations is encouraging,” she said.
