The ousted prime minister also constituted a five-member negotiating committee comprising Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Salman Akram Raja and Asad Qaiser.

Earlier this week, the former ruling party’s reports and the government’s agreement to use the parliamentary forum for negotiations were released following a meeting between PTI stalwart Asad Qaiser and the President of the AN, Ayaz Sadiq.

However, Qaiser dismissed the reports saying he visited Sadiq’s residence to offer condolences. “No discussion regarding negotiations took place with the president (of the AN),” he added. Similarly, the government also said that no negotiations with the PTI have been initiated.

Aleema, speaking to the media today, said Imran had asked the government to respond to his two demands, adding that the negotiating committee had also been directed to engage with the ruling government on the same two issues.

“Imran has warned that if these demands are not met, he will announce the launch of a civil disobedience movement,” she added.

Meanwhile, PTI founder Faisal Chaudhry’s lawyer also confirmed the development, saying Imran had also put forward seven points, which he said “justify the call for civil disobedience”.

In response to a question, he said the government is causing confusion because it does not want negotiations. Besides, he added, anyone in the opposition who wants to meet the imprisoned PTI founder will be welcome.

However, he added, the government may not allow opposition leaders to meet Imran in prison.
