  • Ogra approves 8.71% increase for Sui Northern users.
  • Approves a 25.78% increase for Sui Southern consumers.
  • The hike will be finalized after advice from the government, says Ogra.

ISLAMABAD: As citizens continue to suffer from high bills during the winter season, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has approved a hike in gas prices for the current fiscal year, the agency said in a notification issued on Tuesday.

The Ogra approved an increase of 8.71% for consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and 25.78% for consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).

According to the notification, the regulatory authority has conveyed the decision to increase gas prices to the federal government.

However, the final decision on price increases will rest with the federal government.

The Ogra sought to fix the average gas price for Sui Northern at Rs 1,778.35 per MMBTU and Rs 1,762.51 per MMBTU for Sui Southern, the notification said.

“Ogra, pursuant to Section 8(2) of the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, in its decisions dated December 17, 2024, determined the Review of Estimated Revenue Requirements (RERR) of SNGPL and SSGCL for the financial year 2024-25.

“Both determinations were sent to the Federal Government for guidance on the selling price of natural gas by category, as required by Section 8(3) of the OGRA Order,” the notice said.

The agency added that any decision advised by the government will be notified by the Ogra, adding that until then, the existing natural gas sales prices by category will continue to prevail.
