Cold snap persists in port city Blogging Sole

KARACHI: Various parts of the country, including Karachi and several parts of Balochistan, continue to be gripped by a prevailing cold wave, with the mercury falling below zero degree Celsius in several places.

In Karachi, whose residents look forward to short winters all year round, the minimum temperature was recorded at 13°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a statement.

With the weather likely to remain cold over the next 24 hours, the minimum temperature is expected to range between 10°C and 12°C at night.

Meanwhile, humidity in the port city stands at 35% with winds of six kilometers per hour blowing from the northeast.

Furthermore, the Met Office has also predicted that the city may experience intermittent strong winds from tomorrow.

Regarding the weather forecast in other parts of Sindh, the PMD said that the mercury is likely to witness a drop of 3°C to 4°C at night in southeast Sindh.

The temperature in upper and central parts of Sindh is expected to remain 3°C to 5°C below normal.

The cold wave in Karachi has been plaguing the metropolis for several days with temperatures even dropping to single digits last week to be recorded at 9.1°C.

The northern and northwestern districts of Balochistan are also experiencing severe cold.

The Met Office said the areas affected by the cold wave include Quetta, Ziarat, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin, Zhob and Killa Abdullah.

Mercury was recorded below freezing in several areas, including Quetta (-4°C), Kalat (-6°C), Dalbandin (-5°C) and Nokundi (-3°C).
