ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said he had accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Gohar Khan’s suggestion to set up a negotiating committee.

“Following PTI’s recommendation to set up a negotiating group, the Prime Minister was approached to form a government negotiating team,” he said in response to a question regarding lawyer Gohar’s remarks during ‘a previous interview with the media.

Sadiq said the PTI chairman recognized the speaker’s role as guardian of the house and asked him to actively participate in the negotiations.

“I accept lawyer Gohar Khan’s proposal to form a negotiating committee,” he said.

The speaker stressed that the solution to the country’s problems lies in negotiations. “We want to resolve the problems and the political instability must end,” he said.

Earlier, Gohar, while addressing the media outside a court in Islamabad, had said that the NA president had assured him of the formation of a committee for the talks. He hopes the committee will be formed by today (Sunday).

“Negotiations will take place because they are the only solution,” he said.

Replying to another question, Gohar said the civil disobedience movement would also be implemented.
