Former Pakistani Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani said US policies are not formulated on social media and there is a misconception that a phone call from US officials will solve everything.
He added that the US does not shape its policies based on social media trends, while expressing his personal desire to see PTI founder Imran Khan released.
Speaking to a local news channel on Wednesday, he said: “People wrongly believe that US officials can make one phone call and sort everything out. On human rights issues, US representatives often make statements, but such statements have never led to anyone’s release.
The former Ambassador to the United States further recalled that during Yousaf Raza Gillani’s tenure as Prime Minister, he held meetings with senior US officials regarding the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. However, the United States refused to advance discussions regarding his release.
Earlier, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had refuted all allegations of pressure, saying the US had no influence over Pakistan over the release of Imran Khan. “I don’t believe the US is putting any pressure on the release of Imran Khan.
