The US military said Tuesday its forces “conducted multiple precision strikes” that hit Houthi targets in the capital of Yemen.
The targets had been used by Iran-backed rebels to attack American warships and commercial ships, United States Central Command said in a press release. The attacks began on Monday and continued on Tuesday. A video shared by the command shows the planes take off and rockets launched from a ship.
Targets included a Houthi command and control facility and advanced conventional weapons production and storage facilities. The facilities housed missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles used in Houthi operations, CENTCOM said. US Navy and US Air Force aircraft also destroyed a Houthi coastal radar site as well as seven cruise missiles and unmanned aerial dronesCENTCOM said.
A witness in Sanaa, Yemen’s capital controlled by the Houthis, reported several strikes in different locations. Another reported raids on Sanaa against the Defense Ministry and hearing a powerful explosion.
The command said there were no injuries or damage to U.S. personnel or equipment.
The strikes are part of CENTCOM’s efforts to degrade Iranian-backed Houthi efforts to threaten regional partners and military and merchant shipping in the region.
Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam called the strikes “American aggression” and “a blatant violation of the sovereignty of an independent state and blatant support for Israel.”
Rebels said earlier Tuesday they had fired two missiles at Israel, hours after the Israeli military said it had intercepted a projectile launched from the country. At the beginning of December, a rocket fired from Yemen hit a Tel Aviv neighborhoodleaving more than a dozen people injured by flying glass, according to the Israeli army. This came after several days of Israeli airstrikes targeting Houthi rebels.
The Houthis control much of War-torn Yemen and fired missiles and drones at Israel, and ships in the Red Sea And Gulf of Adenin what they say is solidarity with the Palestinians during the Israel-Hamas War in the Gaza Strip.
