What you need to know
Application. State will be in front of their home fans on Thursday, but a look at the spread shows they might need that home-field advantage. After both enjoying some extra time off, they and the Troy Trojans will dust off their jerseys to face off at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Holmes Convocation Center. The Mountaineers enter the game hobbled by three straight losses, while the Trojans will enter the game buoyed by three straight wins.
Two weeks ago, App. State was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap, falling 68-64 to North Texas.
Despite their loss, App. State saw several players rise to the challenge and make remarkable plays. Myles Tate, who scored 21 points plus five assists and five steals, was perhaps the best of them all. Application. The state is 3-1 when Tate throws three or more interceptions, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also received help from CJ Huntley, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 17 points.
Application. State struggled to get the ball on offense and finished the game with just five offensive rebounds. This is the fewest offensive rebounds they have recorded since February 2024.
Meanwhile, everything went Troy’s way against Georgia State two weeks ago as Troy won 77-57. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping opponents off the field, having won four games by 19 points or more this season.
Application. State’s loss dropped its record to 6-6. As for Troy, their victory was their fourth in a row at home, which improved their record to 8-4.
Rebounding will likely be a big factor in this contest: App. State has crashed the boards this season, averaging 38.2 rebounds per game. However, it’s not like Troy struggled in this department, as his average was 38.4. As both teams fight to recover missed shots, we’ll see if one team can take the lead.
While only Troy took care of their fans the last time they played, both teams pleased the bettors by covering the spread. Going forward, they should win a close contest, except for the buzzers. This will be the app. This is the first time State has played as a home underdog this season.
