Traffic restored on KKH as protest ends Blogging Sole

A sit-in protest against the electricity crisis in Aliabad area of ​​Hunza district ended on Wednesday with the Karakoram Highway restored for traffic as the government accepted residents’ demands . Protests broke out in several regions of Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday, with residents denouncing up to 22 hours of daily power cuts amid harsh winter conditions and snowfall.

The sit-in in Aliabad area – the headquarters of Hunza district – caused hardship to locals and travelers as heavy traffic remained suspended and an alternative route opened for light traffic. Vehicles loaded with goods imported from China via the Khunjerab pass also remained stuck at the protest site. A statement issued by the British government spokesperson said the federal government had accepted the protesters’ 14 demands.
