Pakistan Army, FIA and ISI officials mandated to cut losses and root out corruption at Sepco Blogging Sole

ISLAMABAD: Personnel of Pakistan Army, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) have been given powers to reduce casualties and eliminate corruption in the Sukkur Electric Supply Company (Sepco), News reported.

In light of Sepco’s current losses, the Power Division has established a Distribution Company Support Unit (DSU) for Sukkur Power Company, in line with the federal cabinet’s decision. The main objectives of this DSU are to speed up bill collection and launch a crackdown on electricity theft.

As per the notification issued on January 9, the DSU will comprise Sepco CEO, as Director, Civil Armed Forces Sector Commander as Joint Director, Sukkur Commissioner Designated Officer as member, the designated officer of Deputy Inspector General of Sukkur as member, Officer BS-19. of FIA as a member, one Military Intelligence officer in BS-18/19 as a member and one ISI officer in BS-18/19 as a member. The DSU will report directly to the Power Division Secretary.

Apart from improving recovery, the DSU was also tasked with reducing non-technical losses (theft) through administrative interventions, support in the implementation of technical solutions, and addressing administrative gaps by interfacing with law enforcement and civil administration.

The MoU will also recommend dismissing underperforming civil servants and officers based on intelligence-based evidence.
