LAHORE: A special unit has been set up to help the Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) combat power theft and boost recovery.
This development was confirmed by the distribution company’s CEO, Shahid Haider, in an interview with Geo News.
He said Lesco had made gains worth billions of rupees by reducing line losses and improving the recovery process. He said the Federal Government had established a dedicated “Nightclub Support Unit”, which would operate for two years.
High-ranking officials from the Civil Armed Forces (Rangers), Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence will assist the unit’s operations, Haider added.
Besides, officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Punjab Police will also be part of the unit, with a Rangers sector commander acting as co-director.
The primary mandate of Disco Support Unit is to accelerate the recovery of unpaid dues, design anti-theft strategies, reduce non-technical losses, implement technical solutions and address administrative inefficiencies through collaboration with security forces. order and civil authorities.
The unit will also recommend the dismissal of low-performing officers based on intelligence-gathered evidence.
Haider, who will be the director of the special unit, said the electrical system was outdated, but they were working to modernize it.
“We are working on lists of corrupt and incompetent officers, and they will be fired,” he said.
The Lesco chief further revealed that 83,000 new connection meters will be installed within a month or two, adding that they are driving the company towards self-sufficiency.
