A proposal to increase the wages and the advantages of the members of the Parliament (MPS) to match those of the federal secretaries was approved by the finance committee of the National Assembly, Express News reported.

Following approval, a summary was sent to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for a more in -depth examination. According to sources within the assembly secretariat, the monthly salary and the benefits for members of the National Assembly (MNA) and the senators will be set at 519,000 Pakistani rupees.

These recommendations were sent to Prime Minister Sharif for approval. This decision comes after a request from 67 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf party (PTI) for an increase in their salary.

Other political parties, including the Pakistani peoples’ party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), also supported wage increases. After approval, deputies will benefit from facilities equivalent to those of federal secretaries.

While some parliamentarians had asked for a monthly salary of 1 million rupees, President Ayaz Sadiq rejected this request. The finance committee, as part of the 2024-2025 financial budget, was authorized to decide on the increases in remuneration for deputies.
