The Minister of the Interior of the Sindh, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, advised Chinese nationals who filed a request to the high court of the Sindh (SHC) against allegations of police harassment to adhere to the standard operational procedures (SOP) established To respond to these concerns.

Addressing the media on Monday, Lanjar stressed that Chinese citizens should send their grievances via the Chinese consulate or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in accordance with the protocols developed jointly by the Sindh government and the Chinese consulate.

“These petitioners have no direct investment in Pakistan and their petition is not legally valid either,” said the minister. He added that he had in charge of the Police Inspector General (IG) to form a team to dialogue with the Chinese Consul General in Karachi to solve the problem.

Lanjar reiterated respect for the Sindh government for Chinese nationals, but stressed the importance of respecting official procedures. “We attach great importance to our Chinese partners, but they must follow the SOPs established by the government in collaboration with the Chinese authorities,” he said.

The Minister also announced his intention to meet the Chinese Consul General to publish an official statement on the issue and resolve the amicable problems.

Last week, Lanjar reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals, calling it as absolute priority. He assured that all the measures described in the SOPs are implemented effectively.

The Sindh government and the Sindh police are committed to facilitating and protecting Chinese investors through mutual cooperation.

The Minister also stressed that the sponsors of Chinese nationals should remain informed and that agents of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) should remain vigilant in the control of security measures.
