Islamabad:
The convoy of the president of the Azad Jammu-et-Cachemire (AJK) legislative assembly, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, was attacked on Sunday, injured. However, the speaker remained unscathed.
Akbar, who belongs to the PPP, went to his constituency, Khawara, in the suburbs of Muzaffarabad, to attend a political meeting when the incident took place. PPP workers who were traveling with the speaker were then transferred to a hospital to receive medical care.
Addressing Express News by phone, Chaudhry Latif Akbar said that he had received threats from his opponents on social networks in the last three days and that he had informed the police and the competent authorities, but that ‘No measure had been taken.
Tensions intensified following the attack, leading to an exchange of shots between the police and a group of workers from the Muslim conference, who would have led the attack.
AC Rural Hammad Bashir said that a small group had fired and launched stones at the spokesperson’s convoy.

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the president’s processing incident. He said the attack was a loose and perverse act. He prayed for the restoration of people injured during the attack.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also firmly sentenced the shots. He asked the competent authorities to ensure the rapid arrest of the attackers.
