Rawalpindi: A terrorist killed in the recent security operation in northern Waziristan Datta Khel was identified as an Afghan national, inter-service public relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

The army media wing said that the individual identified as Luqman Khan, alias Nusrat, son of Kamal Khan, was eliminated by the security forces during an operation on February 6. He was a resident of the district of Spera, province of Khost, in Afghanistan.

Afghan citizen, the provisional authorities of the Afghan government have been approached to resume their body from the individual, he added.

“Such incidents are irrefutable evidence of the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities in Pakistan. The acting Afghan government should fulfill its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by terrorists to perpetuate acts of terrorism against the Pakistan, “said the ISPR.

At least three terrorists were killed one day earlier during an intelligence operation (IBO) in the Datta Khel region. The military’s media wing said the terrorists were trying to escape the outfits of women (burqa) when they were engaged by security forces.

It can be noted that the Pakistani authorities gave the body of a terrorist to Afghan counterparts, also last month.

According to the ISPR, the 48 -year -old Afghan national from Muhammad Khan Ahmedkhel was killed on January 11 in the Sambaza region of the Zhob in Balutchistan.

Security operations are part of a sustained effort, as the country has witnessed violent attacks since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, especially in the provinces bordering KP and Balutchistan.

Islamabad has once again exhorted Kabul not to allow its territory to be used by terrorist groups to carry out attacks against Pakistan.

The country experienced a sharp increase in terrorist attacks in January 2025, increasing by 42% compared to the previous month, according to data published by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), a reflection group.

The data revealed that at least 74 militant attacks were registered nationally, resulting in 91 deaths, including 35 members of security staff, 20 civilians and 36 activists. 117 other people were injured, including 53 members of the security forces, 54 civilians and 10 activists.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remained the most affected province, followed by Balutchistan. In KP’s established districts, activists led 27 attacks, leading to 19 deaths, including 11 security staff, six civilians and two activists.

The tribal districts of KP (old Fata) witnessed 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 members of the security staff, eight civilians and 25 activists.

Balutchistan also experienced an increase in militant activities, with at least 24 attacks, which cost the lives of 26 lives, including 11 security staff, six civilians and nine activists.

In Punjab, two militant attacks have been reported, leaving an injured security official.

On the last day of January, activists launched a major assault on a police check -up in the Jhangi region of DG Khan, but the security forces pushed the attack without any victim. Sindh and the federal capital, Islamabad, each attended an attack, although none of death resulted.

The month also saw two suicide attacks, both in Baloutchistan. Pakistan prohibits Tehreek-I-Taliban claimed the responsibility of one, while the Liberation Army of Balutchistan proscribed took the credit of the other.
