Senator Ali Zafar, member of the Pakistan Judicial Commission (JCP), asked the chief Yahya Afridi to delay the appointment of new judges before the Apex Court until the question of seniority of the judges of the High Court of Islamabad is decided.
The senator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) wrote a letter to the chief judge, asking the chief judge to postpone the meeting of the JCP scheduled for Monday (today) to consider filling eight vacant seats from judges to judges The Supreme Court.
“It is a question of asking to postpone the meeting of JCP to be held on February 10, 2025 until the question of the seniority of the judges of the High Court of Islamabad is decided in accordance with the law,” wrote Zafar to the chief judge.
He said he was concerned about “controversy surrounding the seniority” of the CIH’s list of judges, which broke out after the transfer of judges to the IHC under article 200 of the Constitution and a new seniority list of judges has been published.
