According to data published by Pama Tuesday, in January 2025, sales of passenger cars reached 11,868 units, against 7,802 units in the same month of last year.

Meanwhile, cumulative sales for the first seven months of fiscal year 25 (July 2024-January 2025) rose to 58,266 units, marking an increase of 51% of 38,464 units recorded during the same period in Course for the 2010 financial year.

Sales in January 2025 also led 51% against 7,868 units sold in December 2024.

Mashood Ali Khan, an automotive expert and former president of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM), awarded the increase in sales to a renewal of consumer interests at the start of the year.

He noted that the Japanese, Korean and Chinese car models were particularly popular.

However, he warned that the continuation of this trend would depend on the budget for the coming fiscal year. He also underlined the Stagnant tractors market, which had trouble due to the taxation of the sales tax and did not reach target sales volumes compared to last year.

The truck industry has shown signs of recovery with growing demand linked to the construction sector. An increase in bus imports by the provinces was also noted.

Mashood suggested that if demand was strategically created and made through initiatives by the federal government, it could attract the main automotive players and encourage investments. He also underlined the potential of Pakistan to become an electric bus exporter.

SAZGAR Engineering Works announced sales data combined for its three wheels and four wheels for December 2024 and January 2025, because it did not publish figures in December.

Mashood highlighted the growing motorcycle segment, attributing it to the fact that most people cannot afford cars. He noted that the market offers a wide variety of motorcycles to meet consumer demand.

He also recommended that the government impose a ban on trucks over five years old to enter major cities. This movement, he suggested, would not only reduce accidents but also encourage local manufacturers to produce new trucks.
