  • Country noted at 7 -digit under AD HOC rescue, regulatory allowance.
  • The highest increase goes to the already heavy salary of the president of NEPRA.

In a shocking abuse of power, the president and the members of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) have generously granted a salary increase of 220% without approval of the competent authorities, including the federal office, said sources that said sources Geo News.

According to NEPRA sources, the increase in wages, ranging from RS2 million to Rs 2.2 million, was carried out without the compulsory protocol.

Sources have revealed that, in some cases, six -digit wages have been raised at seven figures without obtaining the required approval of the federal office, increasing them under the rescue and regulatory allowance sections.

According to a revised notification of October 2023, the total salary, including all the advantages, has now reached Rs1 million rupees.

The highest increase, however, went to the already heavy salary of the President of Nepra, who has now exceeded 3.2 million rupees, while the compensation of the four members were increased to 2.9 million rupees.

Talk to Geo NewsThe former president of Nepra, Taufeeq H Farooqi, revealed that his monthly salary, including all – compensation, advantages, privileges – was 790,000 rupees.

Declaring that only the federal office was authorized to approve an increase in the salaries of the senior NEPRA officials, Farooqui, who was president of the regulator until August 2023, told Geo News that members of the members were around 740 000 rupees during his mandate.

It should be noted that the salary, the advantages and the benefits for the president and the members of the NEPRA are defined in article 8 of the 1997 NEPRA law.

The law stipulates that these senior officials will receive a salary and compensation that the authority, with the approval of the federal government, determines, which, in the case, was decided without the approval of the government.

The law also indicates that wages should reflect the specialized nature of their work and be competitive with the remuneration of the private sector.

Most of the presidents and members of NEPRA are retired government representatives, the last wages before retirement were between 600,000 Rs to 700,000 rupees.

Currently, the president of NEPRA and two members of KP and Balutchistan are retired bureaucrats, according to sources.
