Riyadh: King Salman Bin Abdulaziz approved on Thursday the official symbol of Saudi riyaux, marking an important stage which strengthens the identity of the national currency of the kingdom, the Saudi gazette reported.

The governor of the Saudi central bank (SAMA), Ayman al-Sayari, expressed his deep appreciation to King Salman and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman for their leadership in the launch of the symbol.

He stressed that this decision will improve Riyadic’s financial identity at local, regional and international levels.

Al-Sayari noted that the implementation of the Riyal symbol will gradually be introduced into financial and commercial transactions in coordination with relevant entities.

He stressed that the initiative was designed to promote national identity, strengthen cultural belonging and position the Saudi Riyal in evidence among the main global currencies, in particular in the economic framework of the G20.

The governor expressed his gratitude to all the entities that have contributed to the development of the symbol, including the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of the Media and Saudi Standards, Metrology and the Organization of Quality.

Developed according to the highest technical standards, the symbol of the Saudi Riyal reflects the rich cultural heritage of the kingdom, with a design derived from Arabic calligraphy.

The symbol should rationalize the representation of the Saudi Riyal in financial and commercial transactions both at the national and international level.
