The Karachi university road was closed to traffic following damage to a water pipeline when building the fast bus transit system (BRT), authorities announced on Monday.

Traffic police said the water commission and the machines had arrived near Sabzi Mandi to former Sabzi Mandi to repair the damaged line.

The closure disrupted traffic between Hassan Square and New Town, forcing commuters to take alternative routes.

Vehicles from the NIPA are diverted via the turning exhibition, while those of Essa Nagri are redirected to the stadium through the Hassan Square bridge.

The authorities advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid congestion.

The BRT project has already been examined for infrastructure disturbances. Earlier, the Sindh High Court (SHC) summoned the mayor of Karachi and the transport secretary for concerns concerning the trees along the BRT road.

The Secretary of Forests declared in court that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is responsible for the trees of the city, while the jurisdiction of the forest department begins outside the urban limits.

The court asked a report on the km on this subject.
