Islamabad: The “representativeness” of the electoral results of Pakistan has shown no improvement in the past two decades, with successive national and provincial assemblies obtaining mandates of less than a quarter of the registered voters and barely half of those Who voted, a report showed.
The report of the free and fair electoral network (FAFEN) entitled “Representation in the elections of Pakistan (2002-2024)” underlines systemic shortcomings in the alignment of the composition of the legislatures with the intention of voters, which stimulates political instability in the country by eroding public trust in public trust in public trust in public trust in public trust in the intention of voters electoral results, The news reported.
It calls for an immediate parliamentary and political action to reform structural defects in the existing first -round system (FPTP), which is used to elect general seats in national and provincial assemblies.
Fafen’s analysis has shown a persistent representation gap in five general elections since 2002. The National Assembly resulting from the GE-2002 benefited from the support of 20% of registered voters and 47% of the votes interviewed, while the resulting assembly De GE-2008 represented 22 22 % of registered voters and 50 % of the votes questioned.
Likewise, assemblies resulting from the general elections of 2013, 2018 and 2024 represented 26%, 22% and 21% of registered voters, and 48%, 43% and 45% of the votes interviewed, respectively.
The analysis at the district of the results GE-2024 shows that none of the 265 constituencies made a winner by obtaining the majority of the registered voters.
Almost three -quarters of the constituencies (202 or 76%) made the winners supported by less than 25% of the voters registered while the winners of the 63 (24%) constant districts had a support base of 25% to 50% among the registered voters.

In most provincial districts (499 or 85%), the proportion of winning candidates was less than 25% of registered voters.
In terms of proportion of the votes of the winners, the winners in only 107 (18%) provincial districts obtained more than 50% of the votes questioned.
The report identifies the existing first -step electoral system the post (FPTP) as a key engine of non -representative results. Although the low participation rate remains a concern, the FPTP system exacerbates the crisis by granting a victory to candidates who obtain the most votes in a constituency, whether or not they obtain majority support.
In light of the results of the report, Fafen underlines the need for an enlightened and constructive debate on the representativeness of the electoral system.
He urges the Parliament to direct efforts for the evaluation of the FPTP system and to explore means to improve the commitment of voters and to ensure more representative results.
