Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa advisor to information, Barrister Saif urged the federal government to approve the mandate (twists) for an urgent delegation in Afghanistan, highlighting the need for immediate dialogue.
In a statement, lawyer SAIF stressed that the security of residents of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa remains the absolute priority of the provincial government.
He criticized the federal government for having allegedly politicized the issue of terrorism and wondered why similar objections were not raised when the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh undertook foreign visits. He said such actions strengthen the feeling of deprivation of the province.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office confirmed that the Afghan authorities tried to build a border post on the Pakistani side in Torkham. This follows the closure of the Torkham border crossing last Friday, which disturbed movements and trade.
Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan confirmed these efforts during a weekly briefing, highlighting the challenges on the border.
Shafqat Ali Khan explained that the Afghan authorities were trying to create a post on the Pakistani side of the border, which would have been a violation of existing protocols.
The Pakistani government has officially raised concerns to the Afghan authorities and urged them to resolve the issue by dialogue and negotiations.
“We have told the Afghan authorities that this question can be settled by appropriate discussions,” said Shafqat Ali Khan.
