  • Finmin Aurangzeb confirms that the IMF delegation is in Pakistan.
  • The Minister of Finance said that two cycles of talks will take place.
  • Islamabad obtained $ 7 billion in efficiency last summer.

Pakistan was “well positioned” for the first examination of its rescue program for the international monetary fund of $ 7 billion while the talks with the world lender began on Tuesday, said finance minister Muhammad Aurangzeb Reuters.

Islamabad obtained the extensive 7 billion dollar funds (EFF) last summer to help get out of an economic crisis.

The program played a key role in the stabilization of the Pakistan economy and that the government said that the country was underway for a long -term resumption.

“They are here. We will have two series of discussions, first technical and then at the level of politicians,” said finance minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

“I think we are well positioned” for the exam, he said.

The Ministry of Finance published a photo on Tuesday morning showing its official meeting with IMF representatives.

The IMF team generally spends about two weeks to examine budgetary reforms and policies.

A separate IMF team was in Pakistan last week to discuss around $ 1 billion in climate funding in addition to the EFF.

The news said that the IMF examination mission and the government would discuss the performance of various sectors of the economy during the first half (July-DEC), assessing any requirement to make adjustments in the macroeconomic and budgetary framework for the entire year 2024-25.

The crucial part would be to formulate the general parameters of the main contours of the next budget for 2025-26. If the two parties cannot develop a wider consensus on the staff agreement, it could linger until the budget approval for 2025-2026 of the Parliament.
