Islamabad:
During the current talks with a mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government shared a plan concerning the purchase of electricity from users of the net measurement.
According to the plan, the electricity of users of the net measurement should be purchased from RS10 per unit. Previously, electricity generated by net consumers was purchased from RS27 per unit. This means RS17 per unit reduction of the rate.
The IMF had asked how the question of out -of -network consumers leaving the main grid would be addressed. The government has not yet provided a clear response or planning on this subject.
Discussions with the IMF also included negotiations concerning electricity companies. The IMF suggested using the financial space to reduce circular debt, reports sources.
Net measure is a billing mechanism that allows consumers who generate their own electricity – generally through solar panels – to sell excess power to the network. This reduces their electricity bills and encourages renewable energy consumption.
