Punjab police arrested the first suspect in the alleged gang rape of a woman near the Faisalabad highway, police said on Friday.

The suspect, identified as Ali Sher, was apprehended in the hours after the incident, according to the police.

According to the first information report (FIR), the incident occurred on March 25, 2025, in Chak No 62 JB Channan, when armed men intercepted a couple traveling on a motorcycle. A case was recorded under theft and sexual assault.

The attackers would have stolen the victims before sexually assaulting the woman in front of her husband.

Police carried out a medical examination, withdrawn DNA samples and completed the geo-clout at the crime scene.

After the arrest, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her gratitude to the police forces and thanked God for the appropriate arrest. She personally monitored the operation and made sure that all the necessary measures were taken to apprehend the suspect. The chief minister also published instructions for the immediate arrest of two accomplices involved in crime.

Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of strict legal action against the perpetrators, declaring that those responsible for these horrible crimes have to face serious sanctions.

She also reiterated her commitment to guarantee the safety of women and children, declaring that incidents of sexual assault would in no case be tolerated.

Maryam Nawaz expressed her concern about the growing number of these incidents and underlined the need for stronger measures to prevent them.

She assured the public that her government would take all the necessary measures to protect women and children from violence.

The last incident comes in the midst of the current discussions in Pakistan on the implementation of more severe sanctions for sexual offenses, following previous high -level cases.

Earlier, in September 2020, a mother of two would have been raped by two thieves on the highway in an area under the jurisdiction of the Gujarpura police.
