- Central body to meet at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
- According to Suparco, Shawwal Moon is likely to be seen today.
Islamabad: The Central Committee of Ruet-E-Hilal-The Federal Moonsighting Organization, as well as the zonal committees, will convene a meeting today (Sunday March 30, 2025, corresponding to Ramadan 29, 1446 Ah), to see the Shawwal Moon, marking the potential end of the Holy month of Ramadan.
Muslims celebrate Eidul Fitr after the completion of the Ramadan fast month, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
The president of the Moonsighting Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, will chair the meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interconfessional Harmony.
Religious scholars, meteorological experts and other stakeholders will deliberate on Mooning reports from across the country during the session in order to determine the date of the celebrations of Eidul FITR across Pakistan.
The beginning of the ninth and the most holy of the Muslim calendar – as well as the holidays of Eid and the month of mourning of Muharram – is determined by the observation of the new moon.
Last month, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere (SUPARCO) research commission provided for the visibility of Ramadan and Shawwal croissants using scientific assessments, astronomical calculations and modern observation data.
According to astronomical models, the Shawwal Moon will be visible on March 30, indicating that Eidul Fitr will probably fall in Pakistan on March 31, 2025.
Since the observation without aid of the crescent moon is a religious obligation to determine the beginning of the sacred month, the Committee will examine the testimonies of the whole country and will officially announce the official start of Shawwal of this year.
Saudi Arabia, water celebrating Eid today
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (Water) and several other countries are today celebrating Eidul Fitr today.
An official declaration of the Saudi royal court confirmed that today, on Saturday, is the last day of Ramadan, and today will be celebrated as Eidul Ftir through the kingdom.
Meanwhile, the water also made the same announcement.
Likewise, other countries in the Middle East, including Kuwait, Qatar and Iran, have also announced the observation of the Shawwal moon and celebrate Eid today.
Country where the moon is not seen
Meanwhile, several countries have officially announced that Eidul Fit would fall on Monday March 31, 2025, because the Shawwal crescent was not seen on Saturday evening.
Oman officially announced that Shawwal’s moon was not seen and that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31.
Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Australia have confirmed the date of Eid on the basis of astronomical data and local efforts to observe the moon.
In Bangladesh, the National Moon Observation Committee said that the crescent moon was not seen, on Sunday 30th day of Ramadan.
Indonesia also said on Monday as the first day of Eid after failing to observe the Shawwal crescent.
In India, where Muslims finished 28 days of fasting, the Shawwal Moon should be seen today. If he is confirmed, Eidul Fit will be celebrated on Monday.
The International Center for Astronomy (IAC) of Malaysia has confirmed that the crescent will be visible to the naked eye today. Therefore, the country will celebrate Eid on Monday.
The Brunei has followed suit, IAC also confirming that the moon will be visible today.
The Australian Fatwa Council also declared Eidul Fitr on March 31, noting that the Shawwal Moon will be born after sunset on Saturday in the eastern and western parts of the country.
