New York: Pakistan was elected member of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for a four -year term, from 2026 and ending in 2029.
The election took place during the vote held at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.
According to a press release published by the permanent mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, the country has expressed its gratitude for the support it has received from the member states of the ECOSOC.
The declaration noted that the election of Pakistan to the CND reflects the confidence and confidence of the international community in the country’s commitment to global efforts to control drugs.
He also stressed that Pakistan is ready to play an effective role in the progress of the international agenda to combat medication.
The mission added that Pakistan has always remained at the forefront of world efforts against drug trafficking, production and use.
The country has actively participated and contributed to political dialogues in the United Nations concerning the world’s drug control, always by maintaining a constructive and proactive position.
“Pakistan is looking forward to working closely with other Ecosoc members and with wider UN members to strengthen the role of the CND as the main global drug policy organization.
“(…) Ensure that international drug control efforts remain complete, effective and in accordance with the obligations of the three United Nations drug control conventions,” read the statement published by the United Nations Mission in Pakistan.
