Karachi: The senior party official of the peoples of Pakistan (PPP) and Senator Taj Haider died on Tuesday in Karachi following a brief illness, confirmed his family. He was 83 years old.
In a statement, the family said Haider had undergone treatment in a private Karachi hospital.
His funeral prayers will be offered on Wednesday, April 9 after the prayers of Zuhrain in Masjid-Oimambargah Yasrab, phase 4, defense company, Karachi.
His wife confirmed the news, declaring: “My husband, the central secretary general of the PPP, Senator Taj Haider, died.”
Expressing a deep sadness of the loss, the secretary general of the PPP Sindh, Waqar Mehdi, said that Haider was a longtime companion and a committed political worker.
“It was one of the founding and ideological members of the PPP. Its political services can never be forgotten,” he added.
Haider was born on March 8, 1942 in Kota, Rajasthan, in a family known for its academic and intellectual history. He emigrated to Pakistan after the score and continued his early studies in government high school, Ranchor Lines, Karachi.
Haider first entered the world of Fine Arts and made important contributions as a writer for television. He also wrote stimulating columns for various newspapers and played in his own serial Aabla Pa drama, where he described the role of Professor Adi Wala.
His political journey began in 1967 when he attended the Socialist Convention. The same year, he officially joined the PPP and became one of its founding members.
In recognition of his contributions to literature and science, Haider received the Sitara-E-Imtiaz in 2012 for its services in the scientific field. He also received the 13th PTV prize for the best writer in a dramatic series in 2006.
Condolences flock
Reacting to the news, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sadness in the face of the death of the senior PPP and said that Haider had rendered invaluable services for the party and for the cause of democracy in Pakistan.
He said Haider was a key asset for the PPP and one of its most ideologically committed members. “With his death, the PPP has lost an eminent and experienced political leader,” he added.
Meanwhile, the president of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also expressed deep pain about the disappearance of the central secretary of the party.
Counting tribute to the late chief, Bilawal said that Haider’s political, social and literary contributions will never be forgotten.
He described Haider as an incarnation worthy of grace and civility, and a man of creativity and deep intellect. “His life struggle and his sacrifices for democracy will serve as guidelines for future generations,” he added.
Bilawal added that Taj Haider was a symbol of wisdom and conscience in Pakistani politics, and his death left her deeply saddened and saddened.
The president of Karachi Press Club, Fazil Jamili, expressed a “deep sorrow” on the disappearance, describing the senator as “a rare race in the hypocritical political landscape of today”.
