Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed said that the network involved in attacks on Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak and Bannu Cantt had been traced.

Addressing the media in Peshawar, IGP Hameed said that significant evidence was collected in both cases, and several individuals were placed in police custody in connection with terrorist incidents.

He added that other details will be shared after more arrests are made.

A suicide bombardment in Darul Uloom Haqqania resulted in the death of eight people, including Jamiat Ulema-Elam Samiul Haq (JUI-S) Chef Maulana Hamid Ul Haq.

During the attack on Bannu’s cantonment, the security forces killed 16 terrorists, while five members of security personnel also lost their lives.

Inter-service public relations (ISPR) declared on March 5 that the security forces had managed to thwart a cowardly terrorist attack against Bannu’s cantonment at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing the 16 activists who tried to break into the installation on March 4.

“In this intense exchange of fire, five brave soldiers, after having set up heroic resistance, embraced martyrdom in the exercise of duty,” added the army media wing.

Up to thirteen civilians were also martyred and 32 others were injured as a result of the destruction caused by suicide explosions during the confrontation.

“On March 4, 2025, a loose terrorist attack was attempted on the canton of Bannu by elements of Khwarij. The attackers sought to break the security of the canton; however, their harmful conceptions were quickly and decisively by the vigilant and the resolved response of the security forces of Pakistan,” said the ISPR.

On the other hand, a senior Darul Uloom Haqqania official was one of eight people killed, while at least 18 others were injured in an explosion of suicide which targeted the mosque of the historic seminar in Nowshera on February 28.

The bomb exploded in the front row shortly after Friday prayers while the faithful left the congregation of the Darul Uloom Haqqania mosque in Akora Khattak, located about 60 kilometers (35 miles) east of Peshawar.

Kp igp hameed had said Geo News That Maulana Hamid, the son of Maulana Sami-ul-haq Haqqani, was the target of the attack.
