A delegation of members of the US Congress, led by Jack Bergman with Thomas Souzzi and Jonathan Jackson, called on the chief of staff of the army (COAS), Syed Asim Munir and discussed a range of questions of mutual interest, particularly by emphasizing regional security and defense cooperation.
According to a press release published by inter-service public relations (ISPR), the two parties reaffirmed the importance of a sustained commitment based on mutual respect, shared values and converging strategic interests.
The American legislators in visit congratulated the armed forces of Pakistan for their central role in the fight against terrorism and recognized the lasting contributions of Pakistan to regional peace and stability.
The members of the Congress also expressed a deep appreciation of the resilience of Pakistan and the strategic potential of his people.
Stressing their respect for the sovereignty of Pakistan, the delegation of the American Congress has transmitted a strong commitment to advance broad bilateral cooperation, in particular in the fields of security, trade, investment and economic development.
Coas Gen Munir has expressed its assessment to the delegation for their visit and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to deepen and diversify its long-standing partnership with the United States in a mutually beneficial and respectful manner of the national interests of the other.
During the Memorandums de comprehension (MOUS) of Reunion, were also signed for collaboration training in the field of information technologies, read the declaration.
Earlier, the Congress Delegation held an important meeting with the Federal Minister of the Interior Mohin Naqvi in the Federal capital.
During the meeting, Naqvi stressed the role of the country in the fight against terrorism, claiming that “Pakistan is a wall between terrorism and the rest of the world”.
The two parties also exchanged views of improving cooperation in the fields of economics, trade and investments. Discussions have also taken place on security, the fight against terrorism and border security.
Speaking on occasion, Naqvi described the threat of terrorism as “global challenge” and said that the international community should extend full cooperation in Pakistan.
He said: “The sharing of intelligence and technology in the field of counter-terrorism is of the utmost importance.”
The minister also said that the immense sacrifices of Pakistan against terrorism were unrivaled in the global context. He said that the visit of members of the US Congress will be crucial to underline the unprecedented role of Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
The Minister of the Interior welcomed the participation of the American delegation in Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025. He added that the government will ensure all possible facilities and full protection for investors.
Naqvi said that strong and lasting relations with the United States have a key place in Pakistan foreign policy. He said that Pakistan’s Caucus participation in the United States on April 30 is a welcome development.
The delegation of members of the US Congress said it was necessary to highlight the role of Pakistan in the war against terrorism. They also said that the Pakistani community residing in the United States was very talented and hardworking.
