An inmate from California escaped who was sought after as part of the Death of the head of a Mexican police unit was arrested after a week -long manhunt, officials said.
Cesar Hernandez, who was 80 years old for life for first degree murder before escaping from La Garde in December, was arrested Thursday evening in the city in the north of Tijuana. He was sought after for the death by ball, Abigail Esparza Reyes, 33, the head of unity known as “Gringo Hunters”, who devoted himself to the arrest of American suspects who are fugitive in Mexico. She was at the head of the unit of the state of the northern border of California of Baja.
Esparza Reyes died during a shooting on April 9 in Tijuana while the unit tried to arrest Hernandez.
Mexican media, including El Universalreported that video surveillance has shown that Hernandez had managed to escape while running almost naked in the streets before hiding under a tarpaulin that covered a vehicle. He emerged dressed in a fluorescent green uniform – similar to those used by the local traffic police – before moving away.

“These actions reflect the exceptional information and the investigative work carried out by the staff of the Office of the Attorney General of the State, whose coordinated efforts, the tactical analysis strategies and the collection of data made it possible to locate the person stopped today,” said the California prosecutor’s office in a Baja in a Social Network Declaration Friday.
Mexico officials said Hernandez was facing criminal procedures and that “his legal situation will be determined in accordance with the law”.
Hernandez, 34, was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in life, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He was on the way to the Higher Justice Palace of Kern for an appearance before a judge on December 2, when he jumped from the van and escaped the staff.
Esparza Reyes managed the regional team of the unit for eight years, carrying out more than 400 operations aimed at arresting the American fugitives who had fled to Mexico, Reuters reportedquoting the Mexican authorities.
