New Delhi / Karachi: India has asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to examine on Friday the loans disbursed in Pakistan, a source of the Indian government said on Friday, while tensions between the neighbors of South Asia intensified following a deadly attack in India illegally occupied Jammu and the Kashmir (IIOJK).
India and Pakistan announced a series of measures after an attack on tourists in IIOJK last week killed 26 men and there is a fear that the last crisis between nuclear weapons could be transformed into a military conflict.
Islamabad denied any role and called for a neutral investigation. India has suspended a critical treaty of the river in water and the two countries have closed their airspace to airlines in the other.
Pakistan obtained a rescue program of $ 7 billion from the IMF last year and obtained a new climate resilience of $ 1.3 billion in March.
The program is essential to the $ 350 billion economy and Pakistan said it had stabilized under bailout that helped him postpone a default threat.
India has expressed its concerns concerning the IMF on its loans in Pakistan, requesting an exam, told Reuters a government source without developing.
The IMF and the Ministry of Finance of India did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Pakistan’s Minister of Finance Minister said that the IMF program was “on the right track”.
“The last review was well done and we are completely on the right track,” adviser Khurram Schehzad told Reuters, adding that Pakistan had very productive spring meetings with financial institutions in Washington.
“We made around 70 meetings, the interests were very high to invest and support Pakistan as the economy turns around,” said Schehzad.
The outbreak of tensions between the two countries has drew global attention and calls to cool temperaments.
