New Delhi: India said that it had prohibited the importation of goods from or passing through Pakistan while diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear nations were sailing following a fatal attack against tourists in the Indian region of cashmere occupied by illegally (iiojk).
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade in India in a notification said that the prohibition would take effect immediately. “This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policies,” he said.
A provision in this regard has been added in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 “to prohibit direct or indirect importation or the transit of all original or exported goods from Pakistan with immediate effect to additional orders,” he said in the notification dated May 2, said Indian media.
Pakistan has also blocked imports from India.
Alleged activists killed at least 26 tourists during last week’s attack on a mountain destination in the Peahalgam region of the Kashmir Valley.
The Himalayan region with a Muslim majority was the site of several wars, the insurrection and the diplomatic conflicts.
India has accused Pakistan of participating in the attack, which Islamabad denies. Pakistan said it had “credible information” that India intends to launch military action.
After the attack, India threatened to suspend the Indus water Treaty in a bitter response in Pakistan.
Pakistan has also announced reprisal measures which included stopping all border trade, the closure of its airspace to Indian carriers and the expulsion of Indian diplomats.
He also warned that any attempt to prevent the flow of water from the river promised under a treaty of several decades between the two nations would be considered an act of war.
Trade between the two nations has decreased in recent years.
The attack led both to Pakistan and India to catch up with increasing tensions to the control line (LOC).
The Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged fire along the loc separating the two countries while the UN calls for a “maximum restraint” in the middle of the warnings of a wider military escalation.
In addition, tensions are not limited to the border because the cashmiris across India are faced with increasing violence after last week’s deadly attack.
In particular, following the recent attack, the Kashmiris organized life of candles and protest steps, with a complete closure observed one day after the murders and the newspapers printed on the first black page.
Muslims also continue to cope with the violence of the crowd in many regions in India while racist accusations connecting them to the attack surface in the popular story.
The fears of a broader war between the two nuclear countries have also surfaced if the tensions are not diffused quickly.
