President Asif Ali Zardari promulgated federal ministers and state ministers (wages, allowances and privileges), 2025, increasing the monthly wages of federal ministers and states until 188%.

After the draft law, the salary of a federal minister, a Minister of State and a Councilor will be Rs519,000. The earlier, the salary of a federal minister was 200,000 rupees and that of a Minister of State was Rs180,000, according to news.

Under the ordinance, federal ministers and state ministers will receive wages equal to those of the members of the National Assembly (MNA).

In accordance with the order, the 1975 law of state ministers and ministers (compensation and privileges) has been modified. This order will come into force from January 1, 2025.

In February, legislators obtained a massive salary increase of 138% while the NA adopted the members of the Parliament wages and allowances (modification) of the 2025 bill with a majority vote.

The bill proposed to increase the wages of parliamentarians from RS218,000 to Rs519,000, aligning them with the remuneration of federal secretaries.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz legislative (PML-N), Romina Khurshid Alam, tabled the bill, opposition or treasury legislators raising an enormous increase in their wages.

On January 26, the finance committee of the National Assembly gave the bill at a meeting chaired by the president of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq.

The sworn political rivals of all parliamentary parties, including the Pakistani peoples’ party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI), PML-N and others, were on the same length of waiting concerning a massive increase in their wages.

It is relevant to know that the Punjab assembly, in December, had also unanimously approved a bill to considerably increase the wages of the legislators, passing them from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000.

The speaker’s salary went from RS125,000 to Rs950,000, while the vice-president was increased to 800,000 rupees compared to the previous 120,000 rupees.
