The Senator of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Federal Minister Sherry Rehman’s X (formerly Twitter) was blocked in India while hostilities between the two nations increase despite a ceasefire last week.
Without presenting any evidence of involvement in the Pahalgam incident in India illegally occupied Jammu-et-Cachemire, New Delhi, on May 6, Delhi had waged an uninsured war against Islamabad.
In order to guarantee its sovereignty, Pakistan ended up with little option but to retaliate and bring the aggressor back to his senses. In doing so, it also shocked the world by removing six Indian fighter planes, including Three Rafael, a S-400 anti-missile defense system and hacking episodes.
The former federal minister said that being blocked on the X social media platform at the request of the Indian government is “a badge of honor”, declaring that India has changed “existentially”.
The senator made the comments after receiving an official notification from X, informing him that his account had been selected in India following a request for legal dismissal from the Indian government under his law on information technology.
Not only Rehman, but India also blocked access to the accounts of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
In his declaration published publicly on X, Rehman brutally criticized the government led by Narendra Modi, calling the “Hindutva Republic” and said: “Communication is the key to stable and mature states – but being blocked by #HindutvarePublic is a badge of honor.”
She added that “there is not much to say to people who question the existence of Pakistan”.
However, she stressed the importance of a continuous dialogue between the two nuclear arms neighbors, saying: “healthy people should continue to speak in the two countries so as not to erase history as well as normal coexistence options for the future.”
Rehman noted that voices in India pleading for peace and coexistence have “considerably reduced” and remain “not disclosed for fear of series violence there”. She also reiterated that “there are no military solutions to cashmere, the Water Treaty (IWT) and a host of bilateral problems that undermine the peace of a nuclear region”.
“Modi India must overcome this fact,” she concluded, referring to the recent conflict saying: “# 2025War has proven it.”
According to the official communication of X shared by Rehman, the platform has received an official legal request from the Indian government claiming that its posts have violated Indian law. Although the content remains visible outside India, X retained it in the country in accordance with Indian regulations. The company has also reiterated its commitment to inform users when requests to delete content are received from official authorities.
Meanwhile, popular Pakistani music has been suddenly removed from the popular streaming platform Spotify In India, causing concerns and disappointment among music lovers.
The Indian government has also ordered the blocking of social media accounts of certain Chinese state media – the official press agency in the state of China Xinhua and a tabloid, the Global Times – earlier this week. Türkiye Trtworld was also blocked.
The independent information site The Wire and Indian News Platform, were also blocked in India.
The social media platform X said that it has received decrees to block more than 8,000 accounts in India, including free cashmere and the cashmiriyat and maktoob media, which focuses on human rights and minorities.
At the end of April, the government also blocked an Indian Youtube and 19 Pakistani channel, a journalist was attacked and two political and satirist commentators face legal action for their coverage of the Kashmir attack.
