Islamabad: Pakistan’s first economic forum approved a national national development budget of 4.2 rue up ($ 15.1 billion) for the financial year 2025-2026 (FY26), allocating RS1 billion federal rupees and 2.87 billion rupees for provincial projects, on Wednesday.
A meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, approved the annual development plan for financial year 26.
The agenda of the six points of the NEC was unanimously given the green light, as well as the macroeconomic framework and the targets of exercise 26.
The NEC has ordered the relevant provinces, provinces and government institutions to work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Planning to achieve the objectives set in the F26 Annual Plan proposed.
The priority sectors of these development projects include health, education, infrastructure, the water sector and housing, said PM Office Media Wing in a press release.
The meeting also granted to the 13th five-year plan (2024-2029), according to the approval of the “executive of Pakistan Uraan”. The meeting was informed that the 13th five -year plan and the framework of Pakistan Uraan were mutually aligned.
The session was also presented with a third -party surveillance report on the annual national development program. It was decided that future project planning would be guided by the recommendations of this report.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated the participants for the historic victory of Pakistan in Operation Marka-E-Haq on May 10.
“By the grace of all-powerful Allah, Pakistan won the victory in Marka-E-Haq due to the professional competence and the bravery of the armed forces of Pakistan,” he added.
The Prime Minister called India’s recent story against Pakistan to be extremely irresponsible, constituting serious threats to regional peace and security, adding that the people of Pakistan were united to protect national integrity against India.
“India’s threats to deprive Pakistan of its water resources are unacceptable,” said the Prime Minister, stressing that they would also defeat India in the fight to protect water resources.
The Prime Minister said that a special meeting would be held with all the ministers in chief to formulate a robust strategy for the protection of Pakistan water resources in the light of Indian assault.
“The federation and the provinces would work together to successfully protect the water resources in Pakistan,” he added.
The Prime Minister noted that recent economic stability has been made possible due to the joint efforts of federal and provincial governments, adding: “The country is now on the path of economic growth.”
He said agriculture had played a key role in increasing national reserves and economic growth.
“A strategy has been formulated for a gradual increase in agricultural production,” he added.
The performance report of the revised indicators of the economy of fiscal year 25 was also presented at the meeting.
The meeting was informed that a total of 3.483 rummage billions was spent on the annual national development program for financial year 25, including 1.1 Billion of rupees for the federal government and RS2,383 Billions for the provinces.
The meeting approved a GDP growth rate of 2.7% for the 2010 financial year and a target of 4.2% for the next financial year.
A briefing noted that funds had increased from 30.9% from July 2024 to April 2025 and, for the first time, the current balance of the account displayed a surplus.
The budget deficit for financial year 25 was reduced to 2.6% of GDP, while the primary balance showed a 3% surplus of GDP.
Due to government policies and measures, the policy rate has gradually increased to 11% and loans granted to the private sector from July 2024 to May 2025 increased to 681 billion rupees, the briefing underlined. GDP for the 2010 financial year is scheduled for RS114 Billions or $ 411 billion, the meeting has been informed.
A report on the progress of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for the period April 2024 to March 2025 was presented to the Council.
Details of national development projects approved by CDWP and the NEC Executive Committee during this period were also shared.
The Prime Minister thanked all the participants for consensus on articles on the agenda and said that such national consensus was the key to a bright future in Pakistan.
