Rescuers use heavy machines to search at least eight other survivors who are trapped under debris, according to local media and emergency officials.
Residents said the building was located in a narrow street, annoying efforts to provide additional heavy equipment. TV images have shown that rescuers withdraw debris like relatives of those who were still trapped shouted and pray for the safety of their loved ones.
The collapses of buildings are common in Pakistan, where construction standards are often poorly applied. Many structures are built with lower quality materials, and safety regulations are often ignored to reduce costs.
In June 2020, a building of buildings collapsed in Karachi, the capital of the province of southern Sindh, killing 22 people.
