Imran Khan, founder president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), admitted that the current government has succeeded in stabilizing Pakistan’s ailing economy, which was on the verge of collapse, Express News reported.
Speaking to the media from Adiala Prison in Rawalpindi, Imran said, “The government has managed to prevent the economy from collapsing.
Asked by reporters whether he admitted that the government had improved the economy, Imran replied: “The economy has been stabilized and it has been saved from bankruptcy, but it has not yet seen growth.”
Meanwhile, a delegation of PTI Negotiating Committee arrived at Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan.
The committee will brief him on the progress made during the first round of talks, sources confirmed.
The delegation includes key PTI leaders such as Omar Ayub, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Allama Nasir Abbas and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The vehicle from Gandapur was allowed to enter the jail premises for the meeting.
Military courts hand down sentences for May 9 riots
The PTI founding president’s statement comes as military courts sentenced 60 more civilians to prison terms for their roles in violent attacks on military installations during the May 9, 2023 nationwide riots.
The latest convictions come just days after the ISPR announced that 25 civilians had been sentenced to prison terms for their involvement in the same events.
Among those convicted was Hasaan Niazi, the nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The individuals were convicted for their involvement in violent attacks on key military and government installations, including the Corps Commander’s House in Lahore, the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the ISI office in Faisalabad and Bannu Cantt, among others, said the ISPR. .
Army media further said that proceedings have been finalized against nine other accused in the May 9 cases.
