Cher talks about life with Sonny. – Blogging Sole

It took Cher a long time to get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I thought, what should I do?” She said. “I had the No. 1 record in all these decades. I had a song (“believes”) that changed music forever. So, what should I do?”

I finally made it this year. At her inauguration ceremony last monthShe said, “It was easier to divorce two men than to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!”

It also took a long time for Cher to write her story. this week, “Cher: The Memoirs – Part One” Finally it comes out. When asked what she wanted to say with the book, she replied, “At first, I didn’t want to say much. And then at some point, I just thought, Share, do it or return the money.“

The book focuses on her years with Sonny and her itinerant childhood with a mother who was married at least seven times. She writes about how she had to be an adult from the beginning: “One time we were driving in the car and she said, ‘Cher, I don’t know how we’re going to pay the rent. What do you think?’ So I said: Well, how is this going to work? How will we do this?

In 1962, Cherilyn Sarkeesian met Sonny Bono in a coffee shop. He was wearing a mohair suit and a mustard-colored shirt with a white collar. “I thought it was like Tony met Maria,” she said. “Everyone has disappeared, and it’s just the two of us left.”

But she said it was no love at first sight. “It was Something“I’ve never felt that way before,” Cher said.

Sonny was 27 years old, and Cher was 16 years old. “I just loved it,” she said.

What did she like about him? “How different he was from everyone else. He made me laugh. And we had a dream.”

This dream has come true. By the mid-1960s, Sonny & Cher had five Top 50 songs At the same time. They had a huge hit with the song “I Got You Babe”.

In the 1970s, on “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,” they became America’s favorite couple, with their pranks, their songs, and Bob Mackie’s wardrobe: “And then, when they started to realize that people were listening to him because of what I was wearing,” she said. Then they gave us all the money we needed.” “It was a lot of fun.”

But Sony is starting to change. “He just started not caring,” Shear said.

He didn’t like her going out or even talking to their band. But one member was watching her: a guitarist named Bill. One night Cher met him. “We went back to this place where guys would get high before the show. And then he kissed me, and it was like, Oh, my God.“

Somehow word got back to Sony. “I don’t know if I can say what actually happened because it’s so personal, and it’s so embarrassing,” Scheer said.

But it’s in the book: After Sonny asked her what she wanted to do, Cher wrote: “I said, ‘I want to sleep with Bill.’ Everything seems crazy now. I didn’t mean it, but I thought saying those words was the only way he would let me go.

“I thought if I did this, it would be over,” she said. “He won’t be able to come back. We won’t be able to be Sonny and Cher. I just want to blow him up. But I didn’t know I wanted to blow him up until I was blowing him up.”

They offered her anything to keep up the show: “Because everyone was afraid I was going to ruin the show. They just said, ‘What do you want?’ And I said, ‘Okay, I want my own place in Malibu. And I want $5,000 a month. Hello? And I want freedom.'”

But Sonny & Cher maintained the facade for another two years, until Cher’s new friend, record executive David Geffen, obtained a copy of her contract, and learned the shocking truth: “Sonny owns 95 percent of the company and his lawyer owns five,” she said. “And he called her Cher.” Enterprises, but I have nothing! We have worked together for about 12 years.

She confronted Sonny: “I said, ‘When was the moment when you thought this would be a good idea?’ “I always knew you would leave me,” he said. I said: This is not a reason! Son, how do you do that? I’ve been there by your side working all those nights, all those days, through the good and the bad. He had no answer.

“And we’re still friends after that,” she said.

Even after Cher married Gregg Allman and was pregnant with their son, she rejoined Sony to revive their TV show.

Mason asked: “Can you explain why on this stage all the other things seem to have disappeared?”

“Because we had fun with each other,” Cher replied. “And because on stage there was no marriage. There was no disagreement. There was no word for our relationship. And you couldn’t cut it with a chainsaw.

Cher would go on to win an Oscar for “Moonstruck.” But that is for the second part of her memoirs, which she still has to write.

As for her music, she says she has another album she wants to produce. when? “After I get rid of this book!” I laughed. “Because talking is harder on your voice than singing. And I want to record an album, and 78 is not exactly the time in your life you want that. I wish I could be Tony Bennett!”
