Liverpool could book their place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 Tuesday with the visit of Lille OSC to Anfield. Arne Slot’s men are leading the league stage and have won all six of their matches so far, with their latest against Girona coming in handy. Bruno Genesio’s team is eighth with 13 points and occupies the last automatic qualification place for the round of 16.
The hosts were lucky to escape Spain with a clean sheet last time out, but remain in good form on all fronts. The Reds lead Arsenal by six points in the English Premier League with a game in hand while they are also in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. With two wins, two draws and one defeat with nine goals scored and four conceded, Liverpool will be wary of their French visitors.
Lille beat Sturm Graz last time out, winning 3-2 after throwing away a 2-0 lead only for Hakon Arnar Haraldsson to win for Les Dogues. LOSC are third in Ligue 1 with 32 points after 18 games and their current position earns them an automatic place in the UCL for 2025-26. Lille recently won two and drew one away and are unbeaten on their travels since September, a run of 11 games.

Championship stage so far
Liverpool are the only team in the UCL to have won 100% of their matches in the league stage. The Reds also have the strongest defense in the competition with just one goal conceded. Slot and his players are already qualified for the playoffs, but one extra point will secure one of the eight automatic spots. Lille have only been beaten once in Europe this year and are unbeaten in their last five games with four wins in this run of matches. Genesio’s side are unbeaten in 21 matches in all competitions, with 12 of those wins.
Team News
Liverpool: Joe Gomez is out until at least next month, although it would be a surprise if Slot risks Ibrahima Konate here with Wataru Endo also a possible partner for Virgil van Dijk at the back. Diogo Jota is doubtful so Luis Diaz could lead the attack with Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa. Harvey Elliott could start after impressing against Brentford while Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch could form the midfield.
Possible Liverpool eleven: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Endo, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Gravenberch; Salah, Elliott, Chiesa; Diaz.
Lille: Tiago Santos is out for a long time while Samuel Umtiti also remains out through injury at least this month. Thomas Meunier, Bafode Diakite, Alexsandro Ribeiro and Ismaily should be the final four behind Benjamin Andre and Ayyoub Bouaddi, with Ethan Mbappe and Nabil Bentaleb unavailable. Genesio could send Mitchel Bakker, Remy Cabella and Osame Sahraoui behind Jonathan David given the absences of Edon Zhegrova and Mathias Fernandez-Pardo.
Lille XI possible: Knight; Meunier, Diakité, Ribeiro, Ismaily; André, Bouaddi; Bakker, Cabella, Sahrawi; David.
Prediction
Liverpool should just about win this one, although Lille have shown that they are a very difficult team to beat and a draw would not be an unrealistic result. Take: Liverpool 2, Lille 1.
Champions League standings
Key: Positions 1 to 8 qualify for the round of 16 while positions 9 to 24 qualify for the play-offs of the elimination phase and positions 25 to 36 are eliminated.
