A van plunged into a Kasur drain by claiming the lives of at least eight people and wounding two other injured.
The incident took place near Raiwind, when 10 people returned from a wedding on Friday, local media reported.
Local police said the vehicle, which was a transport box van, had lost control and fell into the drain.
The rescue teams, including the 1122 rescue staff, responded quickly to the scene and transported the wounded to Baba Bulleh Shah in Kasur to be treated. The two survivors would be in a stable state. The victims were identified as members of the same group who attended marriage.
The police investigation suggests that the survival could have been the cause of the accident and that the driver was arrested. However, a Declaration of Rescue 1122 noted that the driver felt sleepy at the time of the accident.
Last week, at least 16 people lost their lives when two public transport vehicles carrying pilgrims against Sehwan de Burewala, Punjab, met fatal accidents on Saturday in the districts of Khairpur and Shaheed Benazirabad.
In the first accident, a bus overturned as it was trying to avoid a rickshaft on the national motorway in the Ranipur region in the Khairpur district, killing 10 people and injuring around 40 others.
Khairpur’s SSP Tauheed Rehman Memon, said the bus was carrying faithful from Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA) to Sehwan, where the three -day annual URS should start on February 17.
He attributed the accident to the survival, saying that the driver had lost control while trying to pass out in front of a ripe pousse.
The deceased and the wounded were taken to government hospitals in Gambat and Ranipur. Some of the injuries have suffered serious fractures.
Local residents, 1122 rescue teams, police, the national highway and highway police staff, EDHI rangers and volunteers helped recover bodies and move the wounded to hospitals.
