Islamabad: Pakistan continues to deal with unfavorable repercussions of climate change, it has been revealed that the granting of $ 3 million received from the Asian Development Bank (BAD) for the flood victims of 2022 of Pakistan was diverted for the rehabilitation of victims of Turkiye and Syria, Syria, Syria, The news reported Wednesday.
The disclosure was made at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by Junaid Akbar Khan while the organization examined the paras of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Communications for Financial Exercises of 2022-2023 and 2023-24.
The audit file revealed that 552.599 million rupees for the purchase of articles for the victims of the floods were diverted to the rehabilitation of the victims of Turkiye and Syria.
The $ 3 million grant agreement was signed on September 16, 2022 for emergency intervention against the 2022 flood in Pakistan. The NDMA provided winter tents and covers of the BAD grant during the year 2022-20
However, the audit of the NDMA for the financial year 2022-233 revealed that it has been observed that, as well as the provisions of the grant agreement and declared ends, the tents and the winning covers obtained by the BAD subsidy to the victims of the floods of Pakistan have been exceeded in the two countries above.
The grant was specifically intended for the provision of life preservation services to communities affected by the flood of the 2022 monsoon; Consequently, the use of the subsidy for other purposes has not been unjustified, depriving the victims of the floods.
The management replied that the elements of rescue (tents, covers) obtained from the BAD subsidy had to be diverted to the population affected by the earthquake of Turkiye, in Syria, because of the very tight calendar of the rescue operation given by the Prime Minister and had also been recovered, replenished for the purpose of the subsidy.
In a DAC dated February 26, 2025, he was informed of the DAC that the NDMA sent rescue articles to catastrophic areas struck people on PM directives, there was therefore no problem of unauthorized issuance of flood rescue articles. The committee asked for a report on this issue in a month.
