An American delegation, led by Eric Meyer, the senior official supervising the South and Central Affairs Office in the State Department, will visit Islamabad from April 8 to 10, 2025.
The visit aims to promote American interests in the critical mineral sector in Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF25), organized by the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan.
The forum, which should take place from April 8 to 9 at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad, will serve as a key platform for world stakeholders in order to explore investment opportunities in the emerging mineral sector in Pakistan. It should highlight the large mineral potential of the country.
During his trip, Meyer will meet senior Pakistani officials to promote economic ties and explore avenues so that American companies invest in the mineral landscape of Pakistan.
Beyond economic discussions, Meyer should also meet senior officials to strengthen current cooperation on the fight against terrorism. In particular, the government led by Shehbaz Sharif plans to present the estimated 600,000 square kilometers from the country of mineral reflections to potential partners.
With 92 known minerals and 52 commercial extracts, the Pakistan mining sector supports more than 5,000 operational mines, 50,000 SMEs and employs 300,000 workers directly.
The visit follows the taxation by President Donald Trump of a reciprocal tariff of 29% on goods imported from Pakistan, in addition to the rights to the goods of various countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has trained two special organizations to resolve the problem and develop a political response.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Muhammad Aurangzeb, said that a delegation will go to Washington to put pressure on the case of Pakistan.
